Griffin was telling Kemp his first incident that happened in Oxford Street and how he felt when he was invisible. He said that being invisible was hard at first because he was not used to many things. Everyone along Oxford Street reacted the same because all of them were either scared or terrified to see such happenings around Oxford Street that was caused by Griffin himself.
