Book Review

The book that i've read for this assingnment is titled "The Invisible Man". This book is written by an author named H. G Wells. This book first started out with an unnamed man walking around Iping finding for an inn to sleep in. Then later on, as the story goes, the invisible man finally revealed himself to his long lost pal, Dr. Kemp.

Before he met Dr. Kemp, he went through a lot of troubles. He was always running away from all the things that he did. He would always find person to cover all his doings and would always be clinging onto several different people. All these while, he had been sleeping from places to places such as the inn, the department store, and Dr. Kemp's home. In the story, he murdered people and robbed people. The only job he did as an invisible man was to rob strangers from the streets.

One incident that really terrified me was that he even killed his own father to get money. That was definitely an outrageous act. I wouldn't do that to just get money. His actions were really cruel. At the end of the story, the inivisible man reavealed himself to his long lost pal, Dr. Kemp. This invisible man name was Griffin. They used to be friends back during the school days. Griffin told everything that he had been doing and told him a plan that he was going to do to get back his books. His plan was to kill Mr. Marvel. Dr. Kemp disagreed with the idea and told Mr. Marvel himself immediately. Sadly, Griffin's plan failed and he was caught.

This story really taught me to not be selfish in life. We may face certain problems in life but we have to face it ourselves. It also taught me to not find a person when we need to, it's a very sad thing to do.

Interview

Ladies and Gentlemen, a very good evening to all of you. Today at our show, we are very gald to have with us two of the characters from the book titled "The Invisible Man" authored by H. G. Wells. Please Welcome, Mr. Griffin and Dr. Kemp! (Applause)

Interviewer: Good Evening Mr. Griffin! We're glad to have you with us today at our talk show.

Dr. Kemp: Oh yes, yes, of course! We're very pleased to be here also.

Mr. Griffin: Oh yes, sure! Thank you too.

Interviewer: Now, let's start with Mr. Griffin. After reading through your story, i kind of wonder. How was it like being an invisible man? Was it tough?

Mr Griffin: Definitely! It was so tough that noone could imagine how i felt being an invisible man. Being invisible man needs to have a lot of courage. Everything you do would be watched by everyone. You have to be really careful. Expecially when i went around stealing money from strangers. If they see the money flying they'll be wondering what was that!

Interviewer: That would be scary i guessed! Well, have you ever thought of not becoming an invisible man then?

Mr. Griffin: Yes, of course! I ever though that being an invisible man was a terrible thing to be. I ever thought of changing back to my original state. But sadly, I don't have the drug or whatsoever to change myself back to the way I used to be. However, if i recall those days, I'd rather be an invisible man then an ordinary man. Why? Because i now love the job of stealing money from strangers. Then i can be rich! I can be the richest man in the world.

Interviewer: So you rather be rich and being an invisible man than be rich and but as a normal man? Wow. That's wierd Anyway, let's go on to our next question. Why did you want to kill people. That's illegal and you knew it was.

Mr. Griffin: Haha ! I've already said earlier, i'm and invisible man. There's nothing I can do. That's the only thing I can do. With my state being, i can't do anything except steal, and kill.

Interviewer: Well, do you believe in anything called God then?

Mr. Griffin: WHAT? Did i just heard you said God? There's no such thing as God here. God is nothing. Everyone can be God. Now I'm te God. You can't see me but you know i'm here. I can control everything and noone will see. That is how God works right?

Interviewer: In the story, you said that you needed to get the book, the three books. What three books was that?

Mr. Griffin: Those three books were books of life to me. I used to be a scientist. I work with numbers and my science apparatus. Those three books were my instruction book. Inside, it tells me orders of how i should do things. Those three books had my words and my writings inside. Only people who understand the math language will understand it.

Interviewer: Seems pretty hard to understand for me. Do you like your landlady Mrs. Halls? Is she nice?

Mr. Griffin: Yes, she is nice. She is a nice lady. I was so shock when she was so nice to me even though i was not quite nice to her. She would still offer me drinks and everything. Well, I guess that was her job as a landlady.

Interviewer: Did Mrs. Halls suspected that something was wrong with you sine your dressing was wierd?

Mr. Griffin: Oh yes she did. When i first came in, she suspected that something was wrong because of my dressing. However, she was brave enough to actually ask me whether i could take off my bandages and i firmly said no. That was a mean way to react i say. But, what else can i do?

Interviewer: Now, not forgetting Dr. Kemp, let's talk to Dr. Kemp. I'm aware that you used to be friends before with Mr. Griffin? What was your reaction when you met him few years later.

Dr. Kemp: Oh, yes. We were friends back then. We went to school together. But since the day he was working on his experiments, he was gone. I didn't know where he went and we didn't have any contact at all. Now that i saw him wounded in my house, I was very shocked. I didn't know what to do or what happened to him. Then after talking to him, he finally revealed himself that he was invisible that he was invisible.

Interviewer: Wow! That must be shocking huh? What did you think changed in him?

Dr. Kemp: Well, as a friend, i'll be very honest. Forgive me if i say something that's hurtful to hear.

Mr. Griffin: Oh, it's okay. Please be, because i would like to know.

Dr. Kemp: Okay then. When i met him, i was so sad. I was dissapointed in him. Now that he's invisible, he changed. Something was missing in him. I felt like there was a hole inside his soul. He didn't know what to do or where to go. It was like he doesn't have a heart to follow.

Interviewer: Oh my goodness! That must be really sad. Now that you've said that Dr. Kemp, do you think that it would allow Mr. Griffin to change to be a better person?

Dr. Kemp: I'm not sure about that. As a long lost friend, I really hope to see a change in him. But i can't say for sure that he would change because it's still his own thinking. You can't force someone to do things they don't wanna do.

Interviewer: Alright! Thank you both for your time. I really enjoyed the interview with both of you. Thank you. May your friendship goes back like it used to.

Dr. Kemp, Mr. Griffin: Oh of course. Thank you.

The Hunter Hunted

Mr. Helas, a nextdoor neighbor of Dr. Kemp didn't believe a singl thing about the invisible man. He said that everyone was crazy. But his wife believed that the invisible man was real. Mr. Heelas tried all ways to prove that he was right. But still, he couldn't prove to his wife that he was. He himself felt that the invisible man thing wa making sense, especially in Dr. Kemp's house. To come to a conclusion, Griffin was was caught red-handed.

The Siege's of Kemp's House

Griffin was still playing the game of killing people. Griffin then writes a letter to Kemp telling Kemp that all the lodging he had and all the food he had eaten was to trick him into believing in him so that his plans won't fail. Kemp realised he was fooled all along. Adye told Kemp that Kemp's servant was killed. GRffin threatened Adye to openned the door but he refused. In the end, Griffin killed Adye.

The Wicksteed Murder

Griffin seemed to have ran out of Kemp's house in a hurry. As he walked out of Kemp's gate, he throws a child and broke her ankle. Noone knew where he was heading to next or what his next move was. Everyone conjectured that he was going to Port Burdock to hide himself from all the bad things he had done for the past few days. Just nearby, he entered into an estate. There was a man already lying flat on the ground, dead, near a pole. Dr. Kemp didn't think that it was wierd. Kemp thought that the man might have seen the pole moving and he followed it and was killed by Griffin.

The Hunting of the Invisible Man

Dr. Kemp was talking to Adye, telling Adye how crazy and how terribly insane he is. Dr. Kemp told Adye that they have to come up with a plan to catch Griffin. Dr. Kemp told everything he knew about Griffin and his plan to Adye. Dr. Kemp told Adye that Griffin's main point was getting those books.

The Plan That Failed

This chapter talked about how desperately Griffin needed to find Mr. Marvel to get back his books. Griffin thought that it was there was a need of murdering Mr. Marvel to get back his books. However, Kemp was against his idea. Kemp had no choice but to lock Griffin. Unfortunately, Griffin escaped. Kemp suspected that Griffin was evil and insane.

In Drury Land

Being invisible, Griffin felt that there were disadvantages too. He felt that being invisible wasn't as good as he thought it wa suppose to be. Griffin thought that being invisible wasn't an everlasting thing. Wherever he went, there would always be trouble for him. In this chapter, he was still talking to Kemp, telling him stories about his past. He went to find another place again. This time, it was another man's house. He did terrible things during his stay in his house. But to sum up everything, he killed the man and robbed him. Kemp heard and felt really sorry for him.

In The Emporium

As always, the month of January would be cold because of the winter season. During that time, Griffin was so cold that he had no place to stay. Wherever he went, he knew for sure that everyone will be terrified to see the same incidents being repeated over and over again. But still, during this season, it was best to be sheltered by something warm. Right across the street from where he was standing, he saw a building. It was a Shopping Mall! He walked towards the mall, and at last, he found himself a shelter. Griffin had no other places to go, so he stayed in there. In the shopping mall, he tricked the assistants and the policeman. After winter was gone, he decided to leave the mall and find another place to go.

In Oxford Street

Griffin was telling Kemp his first incident that happened in Oxford Street and how he felt when he was invisible. He said that being invisible was hard at first because he was not used to many things. Everyone along Oxford Street reacted the same because all of them were either scared or terrified to see such happenings around Oxford Street that was caused by Griffin himself.

At The House in great Portland Street

Griffin, the invisible man was still in Kemp's house. They were still talking. However, Griffin then explains to Kemp his first experiment that he did in the past. Kemp came to realize that Griffin was invisible because of the experiment. During his experiment, Griffin even tried to give drug to his landlord's cat. But it turned out to be a failure. During the days of the experiment, Griffin explained that he was very ill. So he decided to try the medicine too. That's how he became invisible.

Dr. Kemp was talking to Griffin. Dr. Kemp then asked Griffin what made him so angry that he would want to lose his temper. Griffin then explained to Kemp his reasons. Griffin also added by telling him why he wanted to be invisible. His reasons for being invisible was that he wanted to rob people, to get money. He even robbed his father whom after being robbed by him shot himself and died.

The Invisible Man Sleeps

In this chapter, Dr. Kemp and Griffin just talked about their own lives. During the night, Dr. Kemp just was just thinking through if there were such things as invisible man. He first thought he was going mad. Well, maybe he wasn't.

Dr. Kemp's Visitor

Dr. Kemp arrived home that day and saw that there were bloodstains on his doormat. He was quite curious at first, but he just let it pass and thought that it my be his own blood. As he walked into his house, he started to feel something wasn't right. As he was walking towards his room, he saw those bloodstains on his doorknob. At that moment, he realised more and more blood appeared around the house. Then suddenly he heard a loud voice. Mr. Kemp turned behind but there was noone. At the background, he heard movements at the washroom. The man revealed himself saying that he was the an invisible man. His name was Griffin. Griffin used to be his ex-schoolmate. But they lost contact. Griffin told Dr. Kemp that he just wanted a place to sleep and he made Dr. Kemp promise to not sell him away while he was sleeping.

In The Jolly Cricketers

The Jolly Cricketers was at the bottom of the hill. It was an inn that Mr. Marvel stayed in. Everyone around him was saying that the invisible man was coming. Mr. Marvel told everyone to shut all the doors. His reasons was that the invisible man was after him. All the visitors who were staying in the inn had no choice but to listen to him and shut all the doors. Unfortunately, there was one door left open.

The Man Who Was Running

This chapter is a very short chapter. This chapter talks about a crazy man who was running across the street shouting, "The invisible man is coming!" People he was crazy, but for those who got close to him thought that he was making sense.

At Port Stowe

Mr. Marvel was quietly sitting on a bench when suddenly a seaman came up to him and started talking curious things he heard about the invisible man. After much thought, Mr. Marvel decided to tell him what he knew about the invisible man. Few minutes later, the invisible man came back from going round the town stealing money. The Invisible Man Loses his Temper

Mr. Halls and Mr. Teddy heard noises from the room. They were surprised. They immediately went into the room to check it out. But surprisingly, there wasn't anyone there. Then Mrs. Halls heard it too, all of them found it odd. Acoross the window, Mrs. Halls saw the shop owner across the inn running out of the shop screaming "Stop thief!". While Mr. and Mrs. Halls went across the street to check it out, Mr. Bunting was downstairs trying to keep a vigil on who was actually causing all these troubles. In another moment, Mr. Cuss was back in the parlour. Mr. Bunting heard sounds from upstairs, he immediately went up. Mr. Bunting heard a loud scream but nobody was there. Mr. Cuss also rushed up and conjectured that it was the invisible man. The invisible man was so mad that he broke all windows of the inn.

In The Coach and Horses

The story seems very jumpy. It jumps from one incident to the next, and then continue to the next. In order to know what was happening in the inn, we have to go back to the time when Mr. Marvel was in the inn. At that time, Mr. Cuss and Mr. Bunting were investigating on the case. They had the permission to go through the stranger's room, and they found the stranger's diary. They found that there were a lot of things written down in the diary. All they found was some mathematical, and some others were Russian and other different languages. But there was one thing that caught their attention, it was the Greek writings.

He looked very familiar.

Mr. Thomas Marvel

Imagine a man of copious, flexible visage, a nose of cylindrical protrusion, a liquorish, ample, fluctuating mouth, and a beard of bristling eccentricity. That was Mr. Thomas Marvel. He was sitting on a train, on his way to Adderdean, when suddenly he heard a voice from behind. Without turning his head back just to take a peek on who was the man talking to him, he just continued their conversation.

At last, the stranger's luggage arrived at the inn. The luggage was filled with lots of bottles and chemistry equipments. In addition to the luggage, there was a big huge box filled with big fat books. However, the dog that accomponied the man did not like him. There were signs on the man's hands that the dog bit him. When his cut was not open, all you could see was blackness. However, the stranger's nose sticking out of his bandage was white.

Mr. Teddy Henfrey's First Impression

At four o'clock in the afternoon, Mrs. Halls had called for a clock-jobber, Mr. Teddy to fix the clock. Mr Teddy went in to the stranger's room and took a look at his clock. But on the other side, the stranger wanted to be alone and undisturbed by any intrusion. At the mean time, the stranger remembered he had boxes at Bramblehust and wanted Mrs. Halls to help him ask the postman to send the baggages to the inn where he was staying. The stranger then started claiming that he was an experimental investigator. He said that his arrival to Iping was a desire for solitude. He do not wished to be disturbed in his work. He then told Mrs. Halls that he had an accident that's why he was dressed the way he was dressing. He mentioned that he would have to shut himself up in the dark for hours together because his eyes would sometimes be weak and painful without the dark. He also mentioned the he would find it annoying even with the slightes disturbances. Overall, Mrs. Halls found the stranger was undoubtedly an unusually strange sort of stanger. In the middle of the night, Mrs. Halls would dream about a white heads like turnips, that came following her.

And the story goes on ...

The Strange Man's Arrival

It was a wintry day, and there was a strong wind during the month of February, the last snowfall of the year in Bramblehurst railway station. The strange man was dressed from head to foot. His whole body was full with snow. His appearance was very wierd. Fortunately, he was able to find an inn that he could stay in. The hostess, Mrs Halls, was kind enough to give him a fire to warm himself up during the winter season. At this season, Mrs Halls didn't expect to have any guests at her inn. The strange man then paid him and Mrs. Halls left him alone. Mrs. Halls then saw the visitor still dressed the same as he was when he came in. Mrs. Halls tried to ask him if she could take off his hat and coat but the stranger said no. Mrs. Halls and the cook was suspecting that something was wrong.

The first chapter was about the stranger settling down in the inn and the inn hostess felt something was wrong.

I've attached a picture of my cover page. It looks kind of scary though. But i hope it's not as scary as the picture illustrates it to be.
